How to use the roman Urdu to Urdu Converter
- Type or paste Roman Urdu: Urdu written in English letters.
- The Urdu version appears as you type.
- Read it through and fix any words the rules got wrong. The count under the box shows how many came from the word list.
- Copy the Urdu text into your document, post or website.
How the conversion works
Roman Urdu has no fixed spelling: "hai", "he" and "hay" can all mean ہے, and "acha" and "achha" both mean اچھا. So the converter works in two steps. First it looks each word up in a list of nearly 500 common words and their spelling variants, which gets everyday words right. Words not on the list are spelled out letter by letter, using the usual patterns: kh to خ, sh to ش, a final e to ے, and so on.
Urdu usually doesn't write short vowels, while Roman Urdu does, and several Urdu letters sound alike (س, ص and ث all sound like "s"). Rules can't always know which letter a word uses, so unfamiliar words may come out spelled phonetically. Always read the result before using it.
Tips for better results
- Use common spellings: "nahi" rather than "nhi", "bohat" rather than "bht".
- Write long vowels as double letters: "aa", "ee", "oo".
- Keep English words in English if you want them left as they are. They will be converted otherwise.
- Names and technical words are the most likely to need fixing.

About the roman Urdu to Urdu Converter.
Is this a translator?
No. It changes the script, not the language. Type Urdu in English letters and you get the same Urdu words in Urdu script. English sentences are not translated.
How accurate is it?
Common words are usually right, because they come from a word list. Uncommon words are spelled by rules and may need correcting. Treat the result as a first draft.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded, the conversion runs entirely in your browser, and nothing is sent to us.
Why are some words spelled wrongly?
Urdu has several letters for similar sounds and usually leaves out short vowels, so rules can't always know the correct spelling of a word they haven't seen before.
