How a WhatsApp click-to-chat link works

WhatsApp's official click-to-chat format is https://wa.me/ followed by your full number, with no plus sign, spaces or leading zero. Anyone who taps it gets a chat with you, even if your number isn't saved in their phone. On a computer it opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app.

Adding ?text= with a message pre-fills the customer's chat box. It saves them typing, and it tells you where they came from before you even reply.
