Markdown in one minute

  • # Heading makes a main heading, and ## makes a subheading.
  • **bold** and *italic* style your text.
  • [link text](https://example.com) makes a link.
  • A line starting with - makes a bullet, and 1. makes a numbered list.
  • > makes a quote, and backticks make `code`.

Where Markdown is useful

It's the writing format of GitHub README files, documentation, many note apps and a lot of AI tools. It's also handy for writers: draft in plain text without any formatting toolbar, and turn it into clean HTML for your site. Pasting from Word, in comparison, often brings a mess of hidden styling. Do use one H1 and a sensible order of headings, since they matter for both readers and search. The alt text and heading checker checks a published page. You can also add an llms.txt file, written in Markdown, to help AI tools find your best pages.

Before you publish the HTML

Markdown can include raw HTML, and it will carry through to the output. That's useful for your own writing, but don't publish HTML from a source you don't trust without cleaning it, since it could contain scripts. The preview here is sandboxed, so nothing in it can run.

Questions

About the markdown Editor & Converter.

Which kind of Markdown does it support?

GitHub Flavored Markdown, which adds tables, task lists, strikethrough and automatic links to the standard format.

Is my text saved?

No. It stays in your browser and is lost when you close the page, so copy or download your work first.

Does the HTML include styling?

No. You get clean HTML, so it takes on the styling of the site where you paste it. The preview uses simple styling of its own.

Can I use this HTML in WordPress?

Yes. Paste it into a Custom HTML block, or switch the editor to its code view.

Why don't links in the preview open?

The preview is locked down for safety, so nothing inside it can run or navigate. The links work once the HTML is on your site.
