Google Analytics and tracking tag checker.

Check whether a website has analytics and ad tracking installed, and with which IDs: Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, Microsoft Clarity, Hotjar, TikTok, LinkedIn, Microsoft Ads and more, plus Search Console verification and cookie consent tools.

How to use the Google Analytics & Tag Checker

  1. Enter the website address. Check your home page and a thank-you or confirmation page.
  2. We read the page code and look for tracking scripts and their IDs.
  3. Compare the IDs with the ones in your Analytics and ad accounts.
  4. Remember: tags loaded inside Google Tag Manager won't appear here. Use GTM's Preview mode to see those.

Why check your tracking

Tracking quietly breaks more often than people think. A theme update removes the code, a developer pastes it twice, an old Universal Analytics tag keeps running after it stopped working, or a new site launches without it. Every week without working tracking is a week of decisions made blind.

  • Confirm GA4 is on every page, with the right measurement ID.
  • Spot duplicate tags that double-count visits.
  • Find leftover Universal Analytics code, which Google shut down in 2024.
  • Check ad pixels are installed before spending money on Meta or Google Ads.
  • See what tools a competitor uses.

What we can and can't see

This tool reads the HTML the server sends. It finds tags written into the page and their IDs. It can't see tags that Google Tag Manager or a consent tool loads later in the browser, and it can't tell whether events and conversions are set up correctly inside your accounts. When we find Tag Manager, assume more tags may be loading through it.

Setting tracking up properly

  • Use Google Tag Manager as the single place for all tags.
  • Track the actions that matter as conversions: form sends, calls, WhatsApp clicks, purchases.
  • Link GA4 with Google Ads and Search Console.
  • If you have visitors from the UK or EU, use a consent banner with Google Consent Mode.
  • Test with GA4's DebugView and Tag Manager's Preview mode before trusting the numbers.

Turning data into decisions

Tracking is only useful if someone reads it. Our Google Ads management and Meta ads services start with tracking set up correctly, and our conversion rate optimisation work uses it to find where visitors drop off.

Questions

About the Google Analytics & Tag Checker.

How do I check if Google Analytics is installed?

Enter the site above. We look for GA4 measurement IDs (starting G-) and Google Tag Manager containers (starting GTM-) in the page code.

Why does it find Tag Manager but not GA4?

GA4 is usually loaded through Tag Manager, so it isn't in the page code itself. Open GTM's Preview mode to confirm it fires.

Is Universal Analytics still working?

No. Google stopped Universal Analytics in 2024. UA- tags collect nothing now and can be removed.

Can I see someone else's tracking IDs?

Yes. Tracking IDs are in every visitor's browser, so they are public. They give no access to anyone's data.

Does it detect server-side tracking?

No. Server-side tagging and the Conversions API run on servers, out of sight of the page.
