Technical SEO & website checks

WordPress theme and plugin detector.

Seen a WordPress site you like? Enter its address to find the theme it uses, with the theme name, author, version and parent theme, plus the plugins we can see it loading and the WordPress version it shows.

How to use the WordPress Theme & Plugin Detector

  1. Enter the address of the website you want to check.
  2. We load the home page and look for WordPress theme and plugin files.
  3. If a theme is found, we read its details from the theme's own style.css file.
  4. Click through to the theme or plugin to learn more.

How theme and plugin detection works

WordPress loads theme files from /wp-content/themes/theme-name/ and plugin files from /wp-content/plugins/plugin-name/. Those paths appear in the page source, so the folder names reveal what's installed. Every theme also has a style.css file whose header lists the theme's name, author, version and, for child themes, the parent theme.

Why some things can't be detected

  • Plugins that work only in the admin area, or only on other pages, don't appear on the home page.
  • Caching and optimisation plugins often combine files, hiding their original paths.
  • Custom themes have made-up names and won't be found in any theme store.
  • Some sites hide WordPress paths on purpose, or use WordPress only as a back end.

A theme won't make a site look like that on its own

The site you're looking at is usually a theme plus custom design work, content, photography and a page builder. Buying the same theme rarely produces the same result. Heavy multipurpose themes with dozens of plugins also tend to be slow, which hurts both rankings and conversions.

If you want a site that looks this good and loads fast, a lean custom build is usually the better route. That's what our WordPress development service does, and our speed optimisation work fixes slow WordPress sites you already have.

Checking your own site

Run it on your own website too. If it shows the WordPress version in the page, or a long list of plugins, that's worth a look: each plugin adds weight and something else to keep updated. Our website security checker shows other information your site gives away.

Questions

About the WordPress Theme & Plugin Detector.

How do I find out what WordPress theme a site is using?

Enter its address above. We read the theme folder name from the page source and the theme details from its style.css file.

Why does it say the site isn't WordPress?

It may use another platform such as Shopify, Wix or a custom build, or it may hide its WordPress files.

Why are some plugins missing?

We can only see plugins that load files on the home page. Plugins used only in the admin, on other pages, or bundled by caching tools stay hidden.

What is a child theme?

A theme that builds on a parent theme, so customisations survive parent updates. When we find one, we show the parent too.

Is it legal to use the same theme?

Commercial themes need their own licence, bought from the author. Copying another site's custom design, content or images is not allowed.
