How to use the keyword Density Checker
- Paste the text of your page or article (copy it from the page, not the code).
- Optionally enter the keyword or phrase you're targeting.
- Check the top words and phrases: do they match what the page is meant to be about?
- If one word is far above the rest, rewrite some uses with natural alternatives.
What keyword density is, and why it matters less than it used to
Keyword density is how often a word appears as a share of all the words: 10 uses in 500 words is 2%. Years ago, repeating a keyword more often helped a page rank. Today Google understands topics, synonyms and context, so there's no ideal percentage. A page can rank for a phrase it uses only once.
Density is still a useful check in two directions. If your main topic barely appears, the page may not be clearly about it. If one word dominates, the text probably reads as repetitive, and heavy repetition can look like keyword stuffing.
How to use the results
- The top two- and three-word phrases should describe what the page is about. If they don't, the focus is off.
- Use the keyword in the places that matter: title, H1, first paragraph, a subheading or two. Then write naturally.
- Cover related words and questions people ask, rather than repeating one phrase.
- Treat anything well above 3% for a single word as a prompt to read the text aloud and see if it sounds natural.
Better than density: covering the topic
Pages that rank well usually answer the searcher's question more completely than the competition: the details, comparisons, prices and next steps they need. Look at the pages already ranking for your keyword and ask what they cover that you don't. That's the core of our content SEO work. For writing quality, try our readability checker too.
About the keyword Density Checker.
What is a good keyword density?
There is no ideal figure. Use the main keyword naturally where it fits. If a single word passes about 3%, read the text aloud to check it doesn't sound forced.
Does keyword density affect rankings?
Not directly. Google understands topics and synonyms. Very high density can look like keyword stuffing, which Google's spam policies discourage.
Are common words like "the" counted?
They count towards the total word count, but common words (stop words) are left out of the top word lists so the useful words stand out. You can switch that off.
Can I check a URL instead of pasting text?
Not in this tool, which runs in your browser. Copy the visible text of the page and paste it in.
Does it work for Urdu or Arabic text?
Word and phrase counts work for any language that separates words with spaces. The stop word filter is English only.
