IP location lookup.
Enter an IP address or a domain to see its approximate location and the network it belongs to. It's useful for checking where traffic in your logs comes from, or which country a server appears to be in. It's an estimate of the area, never a street address or a person.

How to use the IP Location Lookup
- Enter an IP address or a domain name, or use your own IP.
- We look it up in a location database, and find the network that owns it.
- Read the result as an estimate of the area, not an exact place.
How accurate is IP location?
The country is usually right. The city is much less reliable, and can be wrong by a long way, because IP addresses are assigned to networks rather than to places. Mobile networks are the hardest: a phone in Lahore can appear to be in another city, since traffic leaves the network at a central point. A VPN or proxy shows the location of the VPN's server rather than the person using it.
What it can't do
An IP address can't tell you someone's home address or identity. Only their internet provider can link an address to a customer, and it will only share that with the authorities under legal process. If someone is threatening or defrauding you, report it to the police or, in Pakistan, to the FIA's cybercrime wing. Don't act on a location from a tool like this.
Good uses for it
- Understanding unusual traffic or login attempts in your server logs.
- Seeing which country a website's server appears to be in. The hosting checker tells you who runs it.
- Checking whether a VPN is working, using your own IP.
- Finding the hostname behind an address with the reverse DNS lookup.
About the IP Location Lookup.
Can this find someone's exact location?
No. It gives an estimate of the area, often only reliable to the country or region. It can't identify a person, a household or a street address.
Why does my IP show the wrong city?
Internet providers route traffic through central points, and location databases are estimates. Mobile connections and VPNs are especially likely to appear somewhere else.
Do you keep the IP addresses I look up?
The tool does not save them. Our host's standard server logs do record requests for about 30 days, and those include the address you enter. Our privacy policy has the details.
Where does the data come from?
Location comes from the DB-IP City Lite database, updated monthly. Network details come from public routing records through Team Cymru's free service, which receives the IP address being looked up.
Does the location of my server affect SEO?
Mostly through speed. Search engines work out a site's target country from many signals, so a server abroad is not a problem by itself.
