Compress an image to an exact size in KB.
Need a photo under 50 KB for a job or university form, or lighter images for your website? Pick a target size and the compressor finds the best quality that fits, shrinking the dimensions only if it has to. Several images at once, all processed on your own device.

How to use the image Compressor (to Exact KB)
- Choose a target size, such as 50 KB, and a format: JPG for forms, WebP for websites.
- Choose or drop one or more images.
- Each image is compressed on your device to fit under the target.
- Download them one by one, or all together as a ZIP.
How compressing to a target size works
JPG and WebP images can be saved at different quality levels: lower quality, smaller file. The compressor tries quality levels until it finds the highest one that fits under your target. If even low quality is too big (a large phone photo squeezed to 20 KB, say), it reduces the pixel dimensions a step at a time until it fits. That keeps the image as sharp as the size allows.
Everything happens in your browser. Your photos, ID cards and documents are never uploaded, which matters for anything personal.
Common size limits
- Job portals, government and university forms often ask for photos under 20, 50 or 100 KB, and signatures under 20 KB.
- WhatsApp and email work better with images under about 1 MB.
- Website images: aim for under 200 KB for large photos and under 100 KB for most others.
- Google Business Profile photos: at least 10 KB, at most 5 MB.
Images and website speed
Oversized images are the most common reason small business websites load slowly, and slow pages lose visitors and rankings. Use WebP for the web: it's typically 25% to 35% smaller than JPG at the same quality. Resize images to the size they're shown (our image resizer does that), then compress them. To see what's slowing your own site, try the page size checker, or let our speed optimisation service handle it.
About the image Compressor (to Exact KB).
How do I compress an image to 50 KB?
Choose 50 KB as the target, pick JPG, and drop your image in. The compressor finds the best quality that fits under 50 KB and gives you the file to download.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else.
Why did the image get smaller in pixels?
When the target is too small for the image even at low quality, the tool reduces its dimensions so it can fit. The new size is shown next to each file.
What happens to transparent PNGs?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. Choose WebP to keep transparency.
Can it compress PDFs?
No, only JPG, PNG and WebP images.
