Technical SEO & website checks

Email blacklist checker.

If your emails are bouncing or vanishing, your mail server may be on a spam blacklist. Enter your domain and we'll find its website and mail server addresses and check them, and the domain itself, against the blacklists that mail providers use.

How to use the email Blacklist Checker

  1. Enter your domain (the part after @ in your email address) or a mail server's IP address.
  2. We find the addresses your website and email use, and check each against the blacklists.
  3. Green means not listed. Red means listed. Grey means that list couldn't be checked from our server just now.
  4. If you're listed, follow the steps under the results.

What an email blacklist is

Blacklists (also called DNSBLs or RBLs) are lists of IP addresses and domains seen sending spam. Mail servers query them for every incoming message; if the sender is listed, the mail may be rejected or sent to spam. Some, like Spamhaus, are used by a large share of the world's mail servers. Others are small and have little effect.

Why a business gets listed

  • A hacked email account or password used to send spam.
  • A website contact form abused by bots to send mail.
  • Malware on the web server, if mail goes out from the same address.
  • Shared hosting, where another customer on the same server sent spam.
  • Sending marketing email to bought or old lists, which hit spam traps.

How to get delisted

  • Fix the cause first: change passwords, secure the form, clean the server. Lists relist quickly if spam continues.
  • Visit the blacklist's website and use its lookup or removal page. Most remove you automatically once the spam stops; some need a request.
  • If you're on shared hosting and the listed IP is the host's, ask your host to deal with it or move you to a clean IP.
  • Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC so receivers can trust your mail. Our SPF, DKIM and DMARC checker shows what's missing.

About "couldn't check" results

Some blacklists, Spamhaus in particular, refuse queries from busy or public DNS servers. When that happens we show the result as unknown rather than guessing. A clean result from the other lists is still a good sign. For a fuller picture of your domain, try the domain health checker.

Questions

About the email Blacklist Checker.

How do I know if my email domain is blacklisted?

Enter it above. We check its website and mail server IPs on nine IP blacklists and the domain on three domain blacklists.

I am listed on one small blacklist. Should I worry?

Usually not much. Spamhaus, SpamCop and Barracuda matter most. Small lists are used by few mail servers, but the listing can still point to a real problem worth fixing.

How long does delisting take?

From minutes to a few days, depending on the list. Many remove listings automatically once spam stops.

Why does a list show as unknown?

That list didn't answer our server in time, or refused the query. It doesn't mean you are listed.

Can I check IPv6 addresses?

Not yet. Enter a domain or an IPv4 address.
